SEO Agency
for Lawyers
An SEO agency for lawyers should be judged on one thing: whether the right people call your firm. Most of those calls start in the three-firm map Google shows for searches like “family lawyer Toronto” or “criminal lawyer near me”, and end on a practice page that answers the question the caller is losing sleep over. That’s the ground we work on for firms in Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver and across Canada: plain English, Canadian legal terms and accounts that stay in your firm’s name.

Local SEO for Lawyers: Where Clients Choose a Firm
Legal clients rarely browse. They search in a hurry, pick from a short list and call. Four moments decide who gets that call.
They search
“divorce lawyer near me”, “impaired driving lawyer Mississauga”
Whether your site and profile use the words people actually type, for the practice areas you want.
They scan the map
Three firms, star ratings, distance, opening hours
Your Google Business Profile category, your reviews and how close you are to the person searching.
They open a practice page
One or two websites, read on a phone
A page that speaks to their exact situation, not a list of everything your firm does.
They call or book
Often the same day
A phone number and a short form they can use in seconds, and a clear next step.
SEO for Your Practice Area
Each practice area is searched differently. Here's how the approach changes for four common ones.
SEO for Family Lawyers
Questions first: parenting time, child support, dividing property, separation agreements.
Pages that answer those questions for your province, then a clear path to a first consultation.
Guides written for another province or country. Much of family law is provincial.
SEO for Divorce Lawyers
Urgent and personal, often late at night: “how to file for divorce in Ontario”, “divorce lawyer near me”.
Calm, factual pages on the process, costs and timelines, and a map listing with recent reviews.
Outdated terms. The Divorce Act now says “parenting time” and “decision-making responsibility”, yet many people still search “custody”.
SEO for Criminal Defence Lawyers
Fast and local, usually on a phone: “DUI lawyer”, “bail hearing lawyer near me”.
Map visibility near the courthouse you work from, and a page for each charge you defend.
American vocabulary. Most advice on SEO for criminal defense lawyers is written for US courts; Canadian pages need impaired driving, summary and indictable offences and the Crown.
SEO for Personal Injury Lawyers
Comparison-heavy and expensive to advertise on: “car accident lawyer”, “slip and fall lawyer Calgary”.
A strong page per type of claim, reviews that describe real experiences, and straight answers about fees.
Thin pages. This is the most crowded corner of legal search, and one generic injury page rarely ranks.
Immigration, real estate, wills and estates, employment and business law get the same treatment, built around how their clients search.
SEO for Lawyers in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver
Searched “SEO for lawyers Toronto” or “SEO for lawyers Calgary”? We're in North Vancouver and can work with your firm anywhere in Canada by video call. Each market has its own shape.
SEO for Lawyers in Toronto
- Map results shift block by block, from downtown to Mississauga, Brampton and Vaughan, so each office needs its own presence.
- Many clients search in their first language. Say which languages your team works in.
SEO for Lawyers in Calgary
- Fewer firms than Toronto, spread over a wide area: Airdrie, Cochrane and Okotoks all search locally.
- Searches often name a quadrant or community (“family lawyer NW Calgary”), so pages should use the names locals use.
SEO for Lawyers in Vancouver
- Our home market, where Vancouver, North Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey and Richmond each form their own search area.
- Most car crash injury claims since May 2021 fall under ICBC’s Enhanced Care model, and injury pages have to reflect that.
SEO Marketing for Lawyers: What's Included
The work splits across the three places people find a lawyer. We start where your audit shows the biggest gap, including Google Business Profile and AI search work.
On Google Maps
- Your Google Business Profile with the category that fits your main practice (Google still names them “attorney” categories)
- A steady, ethical habit of asking satisfied clients for reviews
- The same firm name, address and phone number on your Law Society listing and trusted directories
On Your Website
- A page for each practice area and each office
- Fast mobile pages with click-to-call and a short intake form
- LegalService structured data and clean technical SEO
- Drafts in plain English, approved by a lawyer at your firm
In AI Answers
- Clear answers to the questions clients ask, so AI Overviews and ChatGPT can quote your firm
- Consistent facts about your firm wherever AI tools look
- A short monthly report in plain English on rankings and traffic
How to Choose an SEO Company for Lawyers: Five Things to Insist On
Whoever you hire, don't sign without these five. Here's how we handle each one.
Accounts in your firm's name
Your website, domain, Google Business Profile, Search Console and Analytics belong to the firm and use your email. We hold access only while we work together.
Confidentiality
We never list you as a client or share what we see in your data. We don't promise exclusivity in your city, and we'll tell you that up front.
Content a lawyer has approved
We draft practice pages in plain English with Canadian legal terms. Nothing goes live until a lawyer at your firm signs off, and we don't give legal advice.
No claims your Law Society wouldn't allow
No “best” or “#1”, no “specialist” unless you're certified, and past results only with the statement your rules require (see the Model Code).
A contract you can leave
Month-to-month is available; a longer term only if you want one. Each month you get a short plain-English report covering rankings, traffic and the work done.
In Our Clients' Words
Two clients on working with Polar Bear Creative, one of them since 2011.
I have an Optometry clinic and marketing is not my strong point. I worked with Mona and Saman to use the CDAP grant I received. Things went very smoothly, they spoke with me about my goals and came up with a great plan then executed the plan shortly after. Highly recommend for any SEO or social media / google ads you may want to do.
Kidz Venture Group is so thankful for Polar Bear, the team has been supporting us since we started in 2011… Always available and never cease to amaze me with how they are always on top of what is new in the market, always in line with our budget, helping us meet targets…

Questions Law Firms Ask Us
What does an SEO agency for lawyers actually do?
Three things, mostly: it gets your firm into the map results for the practice areas you want, builds practice pages that answer what clients are worried about, and makes sure AI answers and directories describe your firm correctly. A good SEO company for lawyers explains each step before doing it.
How much does SEO cost for a law firm?
It depends mostly on how many offices and practice areas you want to compete in, and how crowded your city is. A solo family practice in one town needs far less than a personal injury firm across the GTA. We price after the audit, and month-to-month is available.
How long before SEO brings consultations?
Profile and page fixes can start to show within weeks. Competitive practice areas in big cities take months, and personal injury in Toronto sits at the long end. The audit gives you a realistic estimate for your market.
Should we put the budget into SEO or Google Ads?
Legal clicks are among the most expensive on Google, so ads get costly fast, but they work from day one. SEO is slower and keeps paying off. Many firms run both, and our team manages Google Ads too.
Do legal directories still matter?
Some do. Keep your Law Society directory listing accurate and use the same firm name, address and phone number everywhere. A few trusted Canadian directories help; dozens of low-quality ones don't.
Can we ask clients for Google reviews?
Usually, yes: ask simply and never offer anything in return. When you reply, never confirm that the reviewer was a client or mention their matter, because confidentiality applies online too.
Is SEO for attorneys the same as SEO for lawyers in Canada?
The mechanics are the same, but most SEO services for attorneys are built for the US: state bars, DUIs, felony charges. If you're comparing an SEO agency for attorneys from the US with a Canadian one, ask who writes for Canadian courts, provinces and Law Society rules.
How will we know it's working?
Our monthly report covers rankings and traffic for the searches in your plan. The clearest measure of new business is your own intake: ask every new client how they found you, and you'll see which searches bring consultations.
Can you work with our firm if we're outside B.C.?
Yes. We're based in North Vancouver and meet by video call, so your firm can be in Toronto, Calgary or anywhere else in Canada.
